Mount Batukaru in Bali’s wild central west rarely gets a mention in tourist circles although it is very well known to the locals. Standing at 2,276m, Batukaru is Bali’s second highest peak and is regarded as sacred by the Balinese. Mount Batukaru is nowhere near as popular as Batur or Agung although the summit area has been cleared and there are some excellent views from the higher slopes to the easternmost Java peaks in the west to Agung and Lombok’s Gunung Rinjani in the east. Different from other mountains in Bali, it is rare to see other trekkers along this hike. This rain forest is the largest wetland in Bali. Due to its function for conservation, the number of trekkers who are permitted are limited.
Mount Batukaru is generally safe to visit, but if you have health problems, I would definitely skip the trek. As a climbing tourist attraction, the mountain is safe to climb, because this volcano is no longer active. Enjoy it! Undertaking a Mount Batukaru climb will not be the easiest thing you’ve ever done but it will be so rewarding and it will stay in your memory forever!
Indonesia’s dry season runs from April to November, and during this time there’s less rain and the mountain visibility is best. You can still visit Mount Batukaru during the rainy season (December to March), and the mornings are normally clear.
Even though this is Indonesia, Mount Batukaru can be pretty chilly before sunrise since it’s well above sea level. Temperatures in the early morning can drop below 10 Celsius, and it can get windy too since you’re on an exposed mountain. However, after sunrise it warms up a bit. It’s best to dress in layers, because when you’re hiking up the mountain you’ll warm up pretty quick and may even get hot.
All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, vacations are no exception. We’ll return you back to your hotel or drop you to airport leaving you with a memories that will last a lifetime. Day 1
- 08.00 : Pick up from any hotel in Bali and heading to Mount Batukaru trekking point.
- 10.00 : Arrive at Starting Point of the trek.
- 11.00 : Begin the trek to reach the peak. (it takes at least 5 – 6 hours).
- 13:00 : Take a break, and enjoy the lunch with a forest atmosphere and stunning panorama.
- 14.00 : Continue the trek to the peak of Mount Batukaru.
- 17:00 : Arrive at the peak point. We will prepare traditional campfire food.
Day 2
- 06.00 : Wake up and enjoy stunning view and sunrise from the Top of Mount Batukaru.
- 07.00 : Have some breakfast.
- 09:00 : Begin the descent towards the finishing point of the trek.
- 13:00 : Transfer to your hotel in Bali.
