MENJANGAN ISLAND
DIVING HIGHLIGHT

Surrounded by unspoilt white sandy beaches and enchanting underwater,
environment Menjangan Island is a perfect definition of what natural beauty is all about.
The word “Menjangan” in the Balinese language means “Deer”. The name was given by the local population
who observed wild deer herds swimming to the island every spring covering a distance of approx 1.2 miles.

Part of West Bali National Park, Menjangan Island was Bali’s first internationally-known diving location.
The island’s protected status as part of one of the oldest national parks in Indonesia.
Menjangan receives far fewer tourists than the southern region of Bali, so it offers a calmer atmosphere.
For divers, this means quieter dive sites, and an exploration atmosphere that is rare in this popular tourist destination.

Famous for wall-diving with easy conditions, Menjangan Island was Bali’s first internationally-known diving location.
This island’s reefs are characterised by complex coral formations covered in soft corals, barrel sponges and enormous sea fans.
In fact, Menjangan boasts the highest concentration of gorgonian sea fans in Bali, many of which are home to minute pygmy seahorses.
And, while Bali’s diving focus may have shifted further south, Menjangan still rightfully holds the title of Bali’s best wall diving,
with shallow coral gardens that drop-off steeply beyond recreational limits.

DIVE SITES AROUND MENJANGAN ISLAND

POS I

The dive here is a relaxing easy dive site. Here we rarely encounter currents which makes this dive great to ease into our adventure. The site has a sandy slope which has a good variety of hard & soft corals and goes down to about 40m+ depth.

Swim slowly along the wall and unearth Nudibranchs, Scorpion fish and small crabs in the coral. You will not be able to miss the Parrot fish, Angel fish, Butterfly fish and Clown fish living along this Drop Off. The shallow water is well worth being inspected as it hosts a variety of critters including the amazing Ornate Ghost Pipefish.

POS II

Located on Menjangan’s most south easterly point, Pos II is one of the best and most popular dive sites of Menjangan Marine Park. It can be beach-entry or boat-entry, and is usually a gentle drift dive.

A sloping corridor of sand bordered by underwater cliffs leads away from the shore and meets the reef wall at around 12-metres. From here, divers can drift east or west along the wall, depending on the current. Drifting with the current to approximately 25m. Hard and soft coral cover this vertical wall. Giant Gorgonians in which you can find Pygmy Sea Horses, Nudibranchs, Scorpion fish and small crabs in the coral. White Tip sharks have also been spotted on this site!. Then take off to the East until its end. Swim along the drop, and finish your dive with your safety stop over a Coral Garden.

GARDEN ELL

The dive site is located at the northwest of Menjangan Island and one of the most favorite dive spots on the Menjangan Island. Garden Eel dive site offers a different atmosphere where you will be treated to small mounds between sand dunes filled with garden eels.

Starting the dive from the most north west tip of Menjangan Island, following the wall southwards towards the Bali/Menjangan channel, you will find an extremely rich and healthy coral across a shallow part which is full of garden eels and is known as a good spot for white-tip reef sharks, turtles, napoleon, eagle ray, moray eel, pigmy seahorse and diversity of reef fish.

BAT CAVE

Located on the south end of Menjangan Island, and Bat Cave offer some of Menjangan’s best underwater landscapes. Caves crevasses are found at 10 m -14 m
and best for underwater photography. Reaching depths of up to 60-metres, this wall is great for deep diving, but also offers plenty to see within recreational limits. Large crevices and gaps provide shelter for a range of fish species, including anthias, bannerfish, angelfish, and more. Further out into the blue you can see schools of tuna, jacks, pompano and fusiliers, as well as barracuda and both blacktip and whitetip reef sharks occasionally cruising past.

ANCHOR WRECK

Another famous dive site of Menjangan Island is called Kapal Budak, which means Anchor Wreck in Bahasa. Nobody knows the name of the shipwreck or why it is laying on the bottom of this gigantic wall.

The wreck is not this site’s main attraction however. An impressive wall looms over the vessel’s resting place and offers a great deal more to see. The biodiversity here is fantastic with cracks and crevices hiding macro subjects such as nudibranchs, and huge sponges and sea whips providing cover for a variety of reef fish. Thanks to the slightly deeper water here, this is also a good site to spot giant frog fish, reef sharks, Fussilier, Pigmy seahorses, moray eels, angelfish, clown fish,
Nudibranchs, bat fish, and more.

CORAL GARDEN

Coral Garden is a popular dive site located off the coast of Menjangan Island. This dive site is renowned for its stunning underwater landscapes and vibrant marine life. A wonderful underwater garden with numerous varieties of hard and soft corals. Divers of all levels are always amazed by the diversity of corals and the health of this reef that lays at 5 meters deep before the wall starts.

Here you will find many cleaning stations, all attracting larger fish. We can spot large schools of fusiliers in the area and you will also see numerous trevallies & snappers. It is an easy & relaxed dive, perfect for beginners and also convenient for snorkeling!

UNDERWATER CAVE

DREAM WALL

Dream Wall is one of our favorite walls around the island. A stunning dive site, featuring mandering walls and pinnacles awash with coral and gorgonian fans. It offers a nice little plateau at a depth of 5m and goes down to around 40+.

As we explore deeper, we are awarded with an array of soft corals that create a breathtaking underwater landscape. With its diverse marine life and stunning scenery. Even in the shallow parts while snorkeling or doing your safety stop you will see nice sea fans and coral formations .will for sure be a diver’s dream. Dream Wall truly lives up to its name.
